Stripey Sam, the Nineth

I just finished off Stripey Sam, the nineth. Although they are obviously related, they all have their own individual personalities which emerge as I paint them. 
I sculpted him in wax, my inspiration taken from The African Land Snail. After making my mould, he was cast in a calcium carbonate loaded resin and then hand painted from life.
He has been a long time coming and the journey was frought with many setbacks but now the Big Snail is here in all his intreging, detailed beauty. Sculpted in the summer of 2019, the wax master had several drastric accidents due to the hot weather and needed to be totally resculpted twice. Third time lucky, the integrity of the design uncompromised, Big Snail eventually made it through to the finish. He will always make me smile because of his troubled journey to creation.
